Yes, insurance is mandatory for flying any type of drone. Some private liability insurances already cover drones. Otherwise, such insurance is available for just a few euros per year.

Any drone equipped with a camera must be marked with an eID before its first flight. You can obtain this online from the Federal Aviation Office once you register there as an operator.
